Her being a lawyer , a wife , a mom AND first lady is an inspiration to me , as a woman, in leading me to believe that if we make the right choices( food choices, lovelife choices, career choices, fitness , stylishness, mothering decisions, and wielding power ,not for the sake of power but to get things done for the sake of the people, all these are worthy goals. And Michelle Obama personifies all these qualities and characteristics. How she carries it all off as first lady remains to be seen . but the prognosis is good. I am inspired by her . And i wish her all of the very best. Her being black to me is marvelous. Black is beautiful. Her brown skin , i am sure every man out there finds her very attractive. Out with boring conventional beauty and in with character . come on , can we actually distinguish one beauty queen from another .Give me character and i will you beauty. enough said. Thank you. I could die tonight feeling as tho I have done what I was suppose to:)

All I can say for sure is Race will get solved before Gender. Most people are super oblivious to gender(not to long ago Dame)r or could care less.
========
For Black women, these two issues are intersectional. I would then wager that, if it is reliant to Black women it is relevant to the the United states, seeing as our work historically, has been, and is currently material to this countries existence.Model Minorityhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18364810029145290617noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14243811.post-43964776752935303092009-04-01T19:50:00.000-04:002009-04-01T19:50:00.000-04:00While reading this article I was reminded how you ...While reading this article I was reminded how you always put in ill passages of other works to support your ideas, which is always is informative and well woven.
Then I continued to read and found myself copy and pasting mad passages of your writing and really just started to marinate on the profound.

---------------------------------------
“I knew that Michell Obama's body was going to ripe area for dialogue because she is the first African American woman to be treated as a symbol of fashion of beauty who is not a singer or a movie star or athlete.”

“Historically, in the United States, the Black female body has beenon public display and subjected to public appraisal since chattel slavery.”

“the more children she had, the wealthier the country became”

“While African Americans do not talk about it publicly, we have pervasive color issues. We are not alone. Many Asian folks, Indian folks and Caribbean folks do as well. I contendthat having color issues around beauty is one of theconsequences of being descendants of a group ofpeople who have been colonized. Being lighter, especially for Black women, historically has meant having access to resources and being perceived as being more attractive. Being light has meant being able to assimilate into main stream American culture more easily. Being light has meant an easier time finding a husband.”

“How can we be post racial, if we don't have a fundamentalunderstanding of how race works in the first place?”
-----------------------------------------------
At risk of damn near creating a “repost” I just wanted to say those lines really stood out to me and I’m better for reading them

I don’t see a Michelle Obama slavery connection, but I know there is one. If that makes any sense?

Besides the egregiously germane “exotic” perception, I guess the fascination of the black female body comes from years of cultural and promotional training of the non Black masses, and general accepted belief in difference in body type, which the “new phenomenons” kinda tore a hole thru. I guess I haft to really think on this one, I’m still trying to figure out why we (black dudes) are fascinated with Spanish chicks.

I’d hate to say we will never deal with race, but I really don’t see it happing ANYTIME soon. To me when I hear “honest discussion about race” it kinda reminds of the term bi-partisanship being put into action. It never works and was a foolish idea from its inception. People have to much at stake with their interest and beliefs to compromise with them on race. The thing is even tho I’m an eternal shade of grey person there are just some things that are plain empirical fact on matters of race in this country, but to others such a statement is akin to the world being flat.

All I can say for sure is Race will get solved before Gender. Most people are super oblivious to gender(not to long ago Dame)r or could care less.

The picture was a powerful one
The Kaplin pieces title was was a ignorant non funny pun imoAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14243811.post-55854816456597344562009-04-01T19:18:00.000-04:002009-04-01T19:18:00.000-04:001. It is an interesting thought I think some kind ...1. It is an interesting thought I think some kind of connections can be made it would depend on the context of the argument. In this case, I don't think the picture was trying to depict anything with regards to those 'times' I just felt it was an appreciation of seeing a First Lady do some manual labor.

2. Very good question. This is where the Venus Hottentot analogy would really come in.

3. Psshh..it's a never-ending tug of war I think. I have come to accept that racism is here to stay so as gender inequality but with the rise of awareness and opportunities we can be educated, re-educated and more light can be shed on issues. We have to realize though that in the end change for an individual/community is dependent on the decision of said entities to change.neohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00482376355312549331noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14243811.post-77718655628331431632009-03-31T20:41:00.000-04:002009-03-31T20:41:00.000-04:00I had something to say about her hair.I am excited...I had something to say about her hair.

I am excited that she doesn't have a weave.

Something about a prominent brown skinned woman, being herself .

Nothing against weaves, they are fly AND I am rather fond of wigs.

That being said, She, and her brown skin
hair represent BLACK self acceptance IS
radical and awesome.

Let me be clear.
