Bonds,Vick, Jordan and the Media.

TwitThis

Something interesting happens with US when a Black Athlete
stirs up some controversy.

Ideas regarding race that we would normally keep to ourselves
are discussed
on the train, at work at the water cooler and with
our friends.
Regardless as to whether it is a prudent idea at the time.

GET CAKE AND SHUT UP
There is an implicit agreement that Black Male Atheletes are suppose
to make with the American
media once they get cake. Shut the F*ck up.

Don't agitate.

Most certainly, NEVER, EVA , EVAAAA, speak on racial issues.
And you can get your money and LIVE.

Michael
Jordan anyone?

Word to 40 Million Dollar $laves.

LOVED AND RESENTED
There is something fundamental that one must understand
about what it means to be a Black Male Athlete.

Similar to how the Black family member that goes all the way and
makes it "BIG", you are both LOVED AND RESENTED by your family.

Black athletes in this country are revered and resented by white folks
and implicitly by Big Media.

BONDS
Did he use them, perhaps?

Bonds said that, to his knowledge, Anderson had only given him legal drugs to treat his arthritis and fatigue, which were especially bad when the Giants would play a day game after a night game. He said the trainer brought the substances to the Giants’ clubhouse, where Bonds would use them. “It was in the ballpark … in front of everybody,” Bonds testified. “I mean, all the reporters, my teammates. I mean, they all saw it. I didn’t hide it.” However, Bonds testified that the products didn’t help ease his suffering, and eventually he stopped using them. “And I was like, to me, it didn’t even work,” he said. “You know me, I’m 39 years old. I’m dealing with pain. All I want is pain relief, you know? And you know, to recover, you know, night games to day games. That’s it. And I didn’t think the stuff worked. I was like, ‘Dude, whatever,’ but he was my friend. “… If it’s a steroid, it’s not working,” he told the grand jury.
I have a more questions than answers regarding Steroidgate.

Have others used them? More than likely.

How would the media be treating him now if
the book published last year regarding his steroid
use was never published?

Would the media be more receptive and friendly to
him if HE wasn't such an outspoken, brash,
and no nonsense communicator with a f*ck you attitude?
Bonds is a bright guy who works incredibly hard to maintain his physical conditioning and almost surely monitors everything he puts into his body. It’s hard to believe that he was taking steroids and didn’t know it. I have no doubt that he’s in incredible pain; 162 games a year for that many years puts a toll on a man. But Anderson is a shady character. Caveat emptor and all that.
Whose interest's are being served by discrediting Bonds?

Is he talented enough of a player to have plausibly hit
as many home runs, with out steroids?

If so, is this another opportunity for White fans, to
hate on a Black player, re the Love/Resentment relationship.

Where is the tangible evidence that he used them?
Bonds told a U.S. grand jury that he used undetectable steroids known as “the cream” and “the clear,” which he received from personal trainer Greg Anderson during the 2003 season. According to Bonds, the trainer told him the substances were the nutritional supplement flaxseed oil and a pain-relieving balm for the player’s arthritis.
And finally, what impact, historically, has steroids had on
a hitters ability to play better?

VICK

Micheal Vick may or may not be culpable in the dog fighting allegations.

I do not buy the reasoning, innocent until proven guilty for two reasons.

The first reason is that VICK, as a Black Male Athlete, cannot believe the hype
and it appears that he has.

He appears to be someone who thinks that he can assert the ostrich
"I didn't know this was happening on my property" defense.

I detest the ostrich defense.
(In fact, a friend of mine asserted this defense when she rocked with
someone I introduced her to, stating that "She didn't know I liked him".
We ain't cool no more.)

No amount of money can insulate you from accountability.

Black Athelete's sometimes believe the hype and think they Cake
will protect them. All Bad DUDE.

That is strictly for very powerful men with last names like
Rockefeller, Hilton, Astor and Gonzalez.

The second reason is that the more you have, the more lawyers,
accountants, goons and weed carriers you need to HAVE on the
payroll.
Wheezy and Ja Rule anyone?

Full disclosure, I am an ANIMAL advocate.

I have wondered recently if I should have pursued being a vet,
which is what I wanted to do as a kid. I loved cats.

That being said.

Vick needs, 2 good law firms, Jesus, and a $50K/week PR firm.
trill Talk.

Athletes + Race = Delicious.

Y'all think they wrong about Vick?

Will Bond's legacy ever recover?

(Throw Back Bonds What!!!!!)

hailing from the city housing the team Barry Bonds started his career with……and acknowledging he wrote this

a slight tinge of bias may be noticeable in his opinion.

“Similar to how the Black family member that goes all the way and
makes it "BIG", you are both LOVED AND RESENTED by your family.”

Great point ma….

You know what tho, its funny how Resentment quite often overpowers love.

I’ve spoken, debated, and argued so much about this subject that I literally feel fatigued as I’m typing this.

Off top no matter how much of a Bonds fan I am, if I had to put a pay check on it I would say that he used steroids. That Being Said he used them during the STERIOD ERA.

During that epoch Managers, G.M’s and Owners looked the other way, for players sticking needles in they ass was bring folks back to the ole ball park..after the strike of 1994. Not just chicks dig the long ball, and there was something about a Dominican being all jolly with a burly Irishmen during the 98 season that seemed to make Americans feel all warm in fuzzy inside. I was never that good at math…but the equation of Pitchers on Steriods + Batters on Steroids = Even , makes sense to me. And being the other batters whom Bonds did and continues to compete against for record book supremacy used steroids also,..would that not create a “push” situation?

To me the whole uproar over steroids was fake from the door. America’s favorite sport by far is football. During the 70’s thru the early 90’s you had a better chance of stepping on a needle in a NFL locker room then in Courtney Loves hotel. Yet NOBODY made uproar about those players or asked to have player accomplishments stricken from the record books.

Secondly, Bonds has been receiving steroid heat for a min…but the SUPER wrath of the media and populous has been going on since around 2003. Now steroids might be a lot of things, but there not addictive. Bonds might display a lot of attributes, but stupidity isn’t one them. If Bonds was on steroids, WHEN THE WHOLE WORLD, began to watch him in 2003, it would have been lets just say (logical?) to um drop the habit, which is something I’m sure he did. That being said, to benefits of using steroids, Disappear Immediately After Ceasing to take them, yet the homie commenced to smash out 45 home runs the two proceeding years after, and still hits close to 30 Home Runs a year..in a 40 plus year old body. When the vast majority of people stop taking steroids, there body mass shrinks like a person on a crack diet, yet Bonds is still burley as ever, could it be his …gasp….work out regimen

Baseball fans sound like a old man..mad that his friend stole his girl because the boy “pleased” her better while using Viagra. The thing is the scorned old man used the little blue pill also, he just couldn’t **** it up as well while on it.

Deep Breath……….:

Vick…

The main thing that gets me about the whole Vick case is the Misappropriation of FEDERAL law enforcemet officials for this case. Please correct me if I’m wrong but.

A. The local authorities where at a loss on what to do about the case and where considering not pursuing charges before the Feds move in.

B. Since when do the Feds fuck with Dog Cases?……Dog cases that, most likely even if the star Defendant is found guilty he won’t do any time or at best will get “misdemeanor” days.????

Terrorism, check

Organized Crime (you know what I mean) check

Dogfighting… uh uh uh…. “we’ve ran out of checks!!!!!”

Somebody is trying to climb that federal ladder

It only laugh to keep from going crazy at the masses ready to lynch…and yes I said and mean lynch Vick, while I read about the White House once again invoking Executive Privilege (ie Gangsta Shit ) to keep Karl Rove from talking to Congress.

Weapons of Mass Distraction……

While I agree with you, the fact that Vick knew NOTHING about what was going on at that house is almost laughable. It is highly PLAUSEABLE that he didn’t know half or most of the goings on there tho, for…hey he’s Michael Vick international superstar.

I want to see the case, how its presented, and how the “FACTS” are laid out.

Indictments are crafted to make defendants look like Satan incarnate.

“Overcharging” is a known and common practice.

Would I say Vick put some of that Nike Money on a few dog fights..

Yep

Do I think he was drowning, electrocuting, and slamming dogs on they m effn heads…

No

To answer your question…it depends on to what degree of “wrong” you speak of.

If you mean by wrong by saying he’s guilty….. they might be or might not be…. He well might have done some of what he’s accused of, but not have participated in the acts that have raised such ire across the land..

I’ve always looked at sports as a way that “society” projects its true feelings.

“Ideas regarding race that we would normally keep to ourselves
are discussed on the train, at work at the water cooler and with
our friends. Regardless as to whether it is a prudent idea at the time.”
Yup….

And no disrespect….

I'm a little disturbed about you shunning

(NO NAACP!!!)

innocent until Proven guilty… (even then tho......)

What is this allbout?

It’s about if that phrase is truly a enforced bylaw of our legal system, and if that applied fairly or if its application is based on age, race, sex, and class.

A reasonable glance at our society will show those who view it, that the phrase “Innocent Until Proven Guilty” is frivolous to most as “I love you baby” coming from pimp.

Given that those who think and FEEL that way are the ones who ultimately become part of the voir dire process, I’d say the implicit FAIRNESS we as Americans ACT like isinherent in our great bastion of freedom is nothing more than a half hearted sham.

“and a $50K/week PR firm.”

P.R firms only manipulate people’s ways of thought… and results most often are temporary

The ingrained inner workings of the “American” mind need a complete and utter cleansing..

Unless Vick hires “The Men In Black” he mines well save his money.

Bonds legacy…

I have 2 names for you

Aaron and Ali..

The Media (aka White Thought Crafters) will invoke revisionist history in an expedient manner to make those they despise in the present look horrid compared to those they hated in the past.

So when Bonds becomes older , safer, and more useable, yes…he might “transform” into the kind old man who was “misunderstood” during his years of greatnesss.

I take STD's very seriously.
Not only I AM i paranoid, yes cointelpro, but you gotta live with some of them SHITS FORVER.
NOT a good look for the social life.

AND

Black women, 18-28, are the fastest growing group of newly diagnosed AIDS cases.

Plus. Evidence.
I have no evidence that Vick spreaded an STD.

If he did, thats deplorable.

About Bonds: He is brash, has an attitude, doesn't like the media at all and yet is talented, that makes ppl detest him...see Terrell Owens. The steroid thing is debatable at this point, however the evidence is pretty much his word against his so it really is up in the air, my thing is it would seem he's been used as a high profile scapegoat with the passivity of Selig and co during the Steroid era. Some said well its 'cos Bonds is one of the last of that era to remain and is still high profile...they build you up only to break you down.

About Vick: Chances are he may have been aware of what went on, he may have warned his cuz an 'nem about it, but at the end of the day if you ain't on the property you can't know for certain what exactly goes on except you got someone keeping an eye out on things. I do think it was possible that these ppl did some stuff on the dl, vick gave 'em some money to handle the kennels and they went about doing they own thing, this happens all the time. What black athletes need to understand is as you ascend in the ranks, you gotta change your posse.

It's the #1 cardinal rule to staying successful in this country. If you rolled with hooligans at one point you can't roll with 'em once you come into dough.

Nah blood.
You just need Goons w/a code.

neo said...

but most goons at that level which these 'letes were don't have none...they have this weird belief that if you got dough you can beat the case...we talked about this one time at a barbershop and really cats concluded, the bottomline and best way to avoid these types of situations sometimes is to cut ppl off who really ain't part of or trying to get with the program...

The problem ain't they people.

The problem is that the cake allows them to believe the hype.
