I wonder if ______ is jealous of Jamie Foxx.
a. Eddie Murphy
b. DL Hugley
c. Bill Bellamy
It must be hard to watch a peer make it so big.
I thought of this when I saw Bill Bellamy on Last Comic Standing.
Then I remembered how heartbroken Eddie Murphy was
when he didn't win for Dream Girls.
Especially when y'all had the same beginnings.
Sorta like being a rapper at Def Jam and "reporting"
to Jay. Word to Sweet Jesus.
Like. The f*ck outta here. How you gon tell me WHAT TO DO when
your a emcee just like me. LOL. Method Man anyone?
Them are the breaks.
Remember how when we were younger and every lil internship,
or phone number of a dope person what we bagged, every lil summer job,
or the prospect of post school employment had so much promise.
Then when you get older, your are JUST expected to show and prove.
That lil sh*t you pulled off three years ago, is just EXPECTED of you now.
Stakes is High. Trill talk.
Does the D.O.C not give a f*ck about Dre and them?
Or does he see at as "just charge that shit to the game."
Personally.
M.dot has had ups and downs, as of late,
just like everyone else.
The challenge comes from really assessing my friendships
and what they mean to me now that they have been tested.
You never get the time back that you have spent with someone.
I will tell you what HAS put some sh*t in perspective.
Learning how small the Black law student population is
in general.
It made me realize how much of an elite group I am a part of.
On the reals, of the group that I surveyed, 95 % of the 12
schools have between 20-60 negros.
Don't let that "minority" enrollment statistic fool you.
Minority enrollment includes Asian students, Mexicanos and Negros.
And while we are all Brown, like the Boogie down.
The stat totally masks how small the Black population is,
for example:
Loyola Chicago: 39 negros/859 total students
UC Berkeley: 36/879
UC Davis: 9/582
U of Virginia: 98/1146<<<<<---Thats whussup.
Howard U: 322/430
Harvard: 190/1749<<<< I was surprised.
Thomas Cooley Law School: 389/3606
Talk about being the model minority.
How do I feel about being the DOC/DL Hugley.
It reminds me of the one mans chicken is another mans steak theory.
Think about it.
Jamie Foxx, Jim Carrey, Jennifer Lopez started out on In Living Color
but they are the three biggest names from the show.
There have been ups and downs since I have moved.
Personally, life is a mixed bag.
I am getting over the loss of my favorite apartment.
I walked into a Pier One World Mart, out here in Cali, and almost lost it.
Crate and Barrel.
Dude. Negatory.
West Elm. F*ck a West Elm.
Sh*t. I can't even look at an Ikea catalog. LOL.
On the other hand.
A few dope things have happened in the last few days
and they all involve me writing and building my network.
It showing me that in the midst of all this change
I am learning how to do something that I am not good
at, which is talk to strangers, namely people that I admire
for the purposes of asking for help and advice.
I have written many, and a few have been receptive and
I am okay with that.
I wrote an author, whose work I have read for years,
and he wrote me back AND commented on my blog.
He complemented my writing, which was NICE.
Another reader, a fellow Black lady from Oakland made my heart
smile yesterday, with her kind words about how my writing
affected her. We share a nerdy Larry David affinity. Lol.
I just realized how connected those two experiences are.
Writers peeping each other and giving feedback.
We have to bounce back.
We have to play our position in life.
We have to reconcile where we landed with WHERE we wanted to be.
But DAMN does that sh*t hurt sometime.

What have you had to bounce back from recently?
Is The DOC mad at Dre?
Do emcee's mind reporting to Jay?

1. A hurt/disrespect someone I care about threw at me weeks back..
2. Why would the DOC be mad at Dre though? Its not Dre's fault DOC lost his voice, things in life happen and you have to keep pushing on no matter what. Can't afford to stay sorry for yourself and raise a pity-party, it does no one any good. I think DOC realized that and went to work...ghostwriting for Dre and other cats, behind the scenes working with DPG, Aftermath all of them and he's making pesos that way still. So I think even though we no longer hear his voice we can hear it vicariously through others which I think is a blessing and a beautiful thing still.
3. LOL See LL Cool J, Method Man...
Blood,
Not only am I making a third of what I used to make... I now answer to a vendor I used to employ... talk about the the tables turning?
And talk about loosing it... I'm liquidating savings to pay mortgage... I can't even think about thinking about people who think about Crate and Elms... dauym I'm miss'n them dark wood furnitures and abstract Italian lights though.
Think'n a get'n the tre eight out the special box in the closet and heading down to Houston and Broadway (Pottery Barn on one corner and Crate and Barrel on the next) and handling my business. Wish you were back in NYC so you could drive the getaway van... oh wait... you can't drive... Dauym... guess I'll have to lug that cow skin chez on the IRT.
Also,
After watching the clip... I realize I miss in Living Color...
Bill Bellamy, dang he fell off. Remember that horrible movie he was in "How to be a Player." Nice soundtrack, bad flick
i am dealing with taking a peak at my old life. i was in NYC over the weekend, with the ex, in the old spot we used to share. (well he owns it, i just lived there) frequented our old spots, and a dozen years later I still can't say for certain i'm doing better without him or that i've met any one better than him.
i don't know if how to reckon with the not knowing...
damn damn double damn!
PS!I'm heading up to the bay next week, maybe we can chop it up on Lakeshore or something!
@Neo.
Why would the DOC be mad at Dre though? I

And talk about loosing it... I'm liquidating savings to pay mortgage...

Wish you were back in NYC so you could drive the getaway van... oh wait... you can't drive..

i am dealing with taking a peak at my old life. i was in NYC over the weekend, with the ex, in the old spot we used to share.

*dead*
I REFUSE TO DO THAT SHIT.
Its hard enough for me to go back to crown heights.
(well he owns it, i just lived there) frequented our old spots, and a dozen years later I still can't say for certain i'm doing better without him or that i've met any one better than him.

Damn. Damn.
Thats that grown folks bidness right there.
Like N*gga.
Should I have left you?
And yall be drinkin yall martini's trynna figger it out.
Wincing, trynna look at him out of your left eye only, because MAYBE there is something that you can see now that you didn't see before.
Lakeshore.
YES M'AM!
Commish.
Where you been?
How many beers you chug?
You see them lil heini' kegs.
They hellla cayyyute.
Eddddyyy Shoulda know that doing demeaning ish like “Norbit” was gonna make the academy look at him side ways….
D.L doesn’t seem to be that type of dude
Bill “The former safest Black guy in comedy” should just be happy to be on TV
Stakes are high
But as difficult things are these days…..people need to not be mad at others..and really be thankful that others and hopefully themselves are hopefully able to reach a modicum of success, instead of falling victim to the jealousy are society breeds by its very nature.
Getting over my grandfathers death, and personal depression are what I’ve had to Mystical single my self from lately, with varying results. Long as we here tho mines well fight tho right?
D.O.C shouldn’t be mad at Dre, he’s kept him around from day one after is accident. (I listened to Whirlwind Pyramid the just the other day…dude was ill, and Ms. Badu’s _____ hasn’t weirded him out yet…strong man lol)
Some rappers are prolly jelly of Jay…but I think a lot of they angst might come from his acumen of like thereof of handling his position.
Well DOC ain't mad at Dre...I mean Dre was producing for dude anyways..it was Dre that provided beats that pretty much wanted to introduce DOC to the world...so ehhh...
