Viagra vs. Abortion

TwitThis

So let me get this straight.

Erectile dysfunction. OK. Viagra AND Cialis.
OK.

Birth Control.
OK. The Patch.OK.

But no abortion.

Thats a crazy @ssed double standard.

Last week, I posted a fews times about on Knocked Up. One of the things that Jonzeey and I noticed was how clumsily
Apatow treated abortion.

The NY times noticed also.

Though conservatives regularly accuse Hollywood of being overly liberal on social issues, abortion rarely comes up in film. Real-life women struggling with unwanted pregnancies might consider an abortion, have intense discussions with partners and friends about it and, in most cases, go through with it. But historically and to this day in television and film — historians, writers and those in the movie industry say — a character in such straits usually conveniently miscarries or decides to keep the baby.

“The industry as a whole is getting to be more public-friendly,” said Brian Dyak, president and chief executive of the Entertainment Industries Council, an organization formed by leaders in the industry to try to ensure the accurate portrayal of health and social issues on screen. “That’s driven by the cost of the movies and the international release. Abortion is not big box office material.”

But an executive with a Hollywood film production company who spoke on condition of anonymity, unauthorized to speak for the company, noted that the film industry has other tough questions to worry about aside from commercial considerations.

“At a time when women’s reproductive freedom is under attack in the courts, why wouldn’t it come up as part of the conversation?” the executive said. “Are you making a statement by assiduously avoiding the discussion?”

Some on the anti-abortion side seem to think so. Many conservative bloggers have claimed “Knocked Up” as an anti-choice movie, in part because the movie never presents abortion as a serious option.

In other controversial News. Lets go see this play, titled, " Nigga, Wetback,Chink" I kid you not.

"So why create a play guaranteed to offend all along the racial spectrum? “It’s not the words that are painful, it’s the racism behind them,” said Mr. Axibal, a 25-year-old of Philippine origin,.........."

Interesting..I noticed that too...but its hollywood what do we really, really expect? I don't think hollywood in my opinion ever accurately tackles social issues..at least the very mainstream hollywood pictures..

i haven't seen knocked up but from the clips n' previews i have seen i wouldn't go to that movie expecting the director to take a firm stance on a serious/dramatic/controversial issue like abortion. one of my homies told me about his girl's abortion and said he actually got to see what would have been his baby, a scene like that would probably take the humor n' fun in a movie that was clearly meant to be a comedy. people needa calm down.

nah, playboy, i disagree. if anything thing i think folks should act up instead. or at least pay attention.

the original criticism was that that the film did not portray abortion as a real choice this woman had, not that it it didn't offer up the medical details of the act itself like some pro-life propaganda.

last i checked, women do have the right to choose in spite of intense political opposition or growing sanctioned limitations.

i do not underestimate the power of the media or the reality that roe v. wade is now only one good case and justice vote away from being overturned. so on this issue i rides, comedy or not.

I do as well. But i really don't see how it could have been presented better in knocked up. Especially when the premise of the movie is for them to have the baby (they even show her in the delivery room in previews).

Her mother told her to get one and she said no.
I'm kinda glad they didn't adress abortion more, because I don't think they would handle it well.

i didn't see the movie so I can't really speak on it. All I'm saying is watching that type of movie and expecting the filmakers to take a firm stance on a subject such as abortion is a little much. And for conservatives to make the conclusion that it's an anti-choice movie is idiotic. Again, I haven't seen it but it's entertainment. They're trying to make people laugh and make money. There are other venues for the abortion debate to take place and better places to look for answers than a comedy movie directed by the same guy who did the "40-Year Old Virgin". That's all I was trying to say.

How come erry body trippin off the "abortion part" but not the Viagra part.

I mean.

How many MORE babies get aborted cuz, ni*ggas GOT VIAGRA and now f*ckinouttacontrol.
Granted this does not absolve his partner of her contribution.

But the blatent Hypocrisy. Gee-whiz.

But are we really gonna depend on one comedy to address a serious social problem/issue? It's a friggin' comedy...I doubt whoever put it together was trying to make any point. I mean the accidental baby thing happens on the daily, all they did was switch the players involved, this time middle-class type white americans..I could be wrong but..isn't it what the movie's about?

NEO NEO NEO.

[1]ITS IS NOT ABOUT DEPENDING ON POP CULTURE TO ADDRESS ANYTHING.

[2]APATOW IS THAT DUDE.
THE REASON WHY I SPILL SO MUCH ink on him is because he takes real life situations and makes that sh*t into comedy.

I feels him on that.

[3]WHAT JONZEEY AND I ARE DOING is about NOTICING AND ANALYZING THE WAY HE HANDLED SOMETHING.

ABORTION IS LIVE, DIRECT AND REAL.

[3] THE REALEST SH-T IN TO ME, in that movie was when they were at the dinner table and 'ol boy was like "REMEMBER BEFORE THE CHILDREN WHEN WE HAD HOPES AND DREAMS".

THATS THAT TRILL.

NO ONE EVER HAS THE FUCKING Cojones, Guts or Moxie to say some sh*t like that.

[4] IN sum, the fact that he could tap into what it something SO SINCCCURE is indictive of the fact that he can handle the heavy sh*t, in a comedic, yet serious IF he won't to.

But have you considered the possibility that he may not have wanted to do anything serious with a serious issue tho? I mean not all comedy gotta be saying something subtle, cats can just make a comedy for the sake of making you laugh nothing more...I think ppl take some of this stuff a lil' too serious. Not all entertainment is educational or even inspirational...but I don't know much about your dude..so I'll leave it at that..

"REMEMBER BEFORE THE CHILDREN WHEN WE HAD HOPES AND DREAMS".

A lot of people who have children feel this way. I can't tell you the number of times when I have struck up a conversation with arandom woman on a pinch in the park or mall, and they ask if I have children. When I tell them no,they get to looking around to make sure no one else is watching(I'm telling you the energy changes from happy to Matrix like) and say "DON'T HAVE ANY AND DON'T GET MARRIED EITHER".
Thats to say that a lot of people who have children today are not happy. In particular, women, are not happy but you know since our society is so child foccused right now, its sooooo wrong to say things like that.

I would say that most people in our society should have no more that 1 child(60%) maybe 30 percent can have 2 children and 10% have have more 3 or 4. The reason why is most of us simply don't have time, help or resources(including money) to raise children properly.

Some people treat having children as a joke but it is not. You must pick a very good partner(emotinally, fiancially and GENTICLY) to bring a child in this world. Otherwise, you will raise a very angry sad and disturbed indiviual.

Love your blog, sorry for the long comment, going of topic, and my bad spelling.

Cialis comes in 5 mg, 10 mg and 20 mg doses. You should better start taking Cialis with the dose of 10 mg once a day. However, consult with your doctor and take Cialis according to the prescription. http://www.8pills.com

.because pregnancy is something that happens only to women, not to men. Also it does involve the beginning of another life. Even so, it may help if we use the Buy Generic Viagra example.

Let's say that there was a movement that was against erectile dysfunction drugs. Saw it as akin to sex toys. Created an atmosphere of outrage over the fact that such things exist. Then let's say someone in Congress introduced an amendment to the health care bill with these provisions, and it passed:

-- no direct public funding for Viagra, Cialis, etc.
-- anyone who gets any assistance for insurance, cannot buy a policy that includes any ED drug
-- anyone who gets any assistance for insurance, cannot buy their own policy, on their own nickel, to obtain any ED drug

Now, would you say that some people's access to these drugs was being inhibited? Or would you say "Well they can pay for the drugs out of pocket, so they still have access."?

And keep in mind, the ability to obtain an ED drug is not time-sensitive. Not in the way that it is to obtain an abortion. So if you have to scrounge for money to get your ED drug fix, well waiting a week or two won't be a big deal. When you're pregnant, on the other hand, and need an abortion, every day counts.

I sincerely hope this helps to clarify why the Stupak amendment is a big deal and is a real punch in the gut to women, and to poor women in particular.
