Obama/ Gore '08: Set it Straight.

TwitThis

You heard it here first.

Would you vote for a Obama Gore ticket?

That sh*t is real sexy.

The Times has a video up on Black women in South Carolina
and what they think of Obama.

“I’ve got enough black in me to want somebody black to be our president,” she said in her tiny beauty shop, an extension of her home, after a visit from an Obama organizer. “I would love that, but I want to be real, too.”

Part of being real, said Ms. Vereen, whom everyone calls Miss Clara, is worrying that a black president would not be safe.

I fear that they just would kill him, that he wouldn’t even have a chance,” she said as she styled a customer’s hair with a curling iron. One way to protect him, she suggested, would be not to vote for him.

And Mrs. Clinton?

“We always love Hillary because we love her husband,” Ms. Vereen said. Then she paused. Much of the chitchat in her shop is about whether a woman could or should be president.

“A man is supposed to be the head,” she said. “I feel like the Lord has put man first, and I believe in the Bible.”

Wow.

Is all I have to say.

I understand that Ms. Vereen trying to reconcile her faith
with her politics, but she is making a very dangerous inference
about whether or not a woman should

be authoratative positions of power.

Protect Obama from snipers BY NOT VOTING FOR HIM.

COME ON FAMILY.

I don't think I can ride for that.

Thats like, a med school admissions committee not admitting me
because they believe that people are not going to want to be my patient.

NOT COOL.

I do however feel her on being fearful of HIS SAFETY.

We have a violent history when it comes to Black leaders.

Peep his ground troop strategy:

In trying to reach these voters, the Obama campaign has organized a network around beauty salons, a central gathering spot for black women, particularly in rural areas like this one.

Ashley Baia, 23, the Obama organizer here in Horry County, is like a modern-day circuit rider, traveling from salon to salon on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, the busiest days for getting a hairdo. Ms. Baia makes repeated visits, hoping to develop relationships with the owners and customers and giving spiels in which she notes that after law school, Mr. Obama skipped going to a big firm and went to work instead on the South Side of Chicago as a community organizer. [That n*gga SJ as well].

Breihan waxes poetic about 50's "I got money."

Up until I saw the video at Nahright, I never heard the song
before.

Then I realized that ol boy took the Audio Two break,
sh*t is nastee.

Say what you want about Bre, at the end of the day,
I can tell when he is really excited to be writing about
something. As a music lover, that sh*t is priceless.

I love the third verse where 50 basically quits rapping and lapses into a playground-taunt singsong. And then he quits that and busts out the "Hip-Hop Hooray" chant, like words can no longer express just how much money he has and he just has to wave his wrist under your nose because he's sick of talking about it. Curtis might've been an absolute mess, but absolutely nobody is better at this sort of supervillain fuck-you than 50.
Supervillan f*ck you.

Nice.

What would be a really dope video would be ground footage of the
Iraq war, footage of foreclosed houses, Mychal Bell sitting in jail,
Obama going door to door stacking votes in Iowa, the noose
hanging on the door of the Teachers College professor.

I don't suggest these images as a means to down play
his intended message.

What I am interested in is the juxtaposition his words, along with the
historicalness of the beat with some OTHER images that are clearly related
to money.

======
======

Mychal Bell is back in jail. Why? I don't know, and the news is not
reporting about it clearly.

Why I do know is that Earl Ofari Hutchinson has a dope piece
about WHY civil rights leaders didn't get Mychal out of jail.

The DA claims that several other scrapes with the law helped keep him there. But he's there in bigger part because his family couldn't raise the portion of the $90,000 bond the courts slapped on Bell. For a working class, black family, in a low wage small Southern town, this seems like a King's ransom. But as bail goes in felony conviction cases, this is not exorbitant.

So why didn't civil rights leaders, the black celebrities, and the marchers that made Bell a cause célèbre and eagerly mugged for the TV cameras pony up the cash to get him out?

The painful answer to that is that civil rights leaders let Bell down. They filled the air with harsh rhetoric about a new civil rights movement, hawked and wore black T-shirts with slogans like "Enough is enough" and "Free the Jena 6," and saber-rattled the DA with talk about hauling him before a Congressional committee. Instead, they should have filled baskets with checks to spring Bell. British rocker/actor David Bowie pointed to this shameful failure when he did more than shout and fist wave. He put up $10,000 for the Jena Defense legal Fund.
My answer is simple, in their eyes, he is not their son.

When you look at a child and you see them as (potentially) your
own you make decisions wearing a completly different lens.

Would you vote for a Obama/Gore ticket?

Why not?

Why didn't anyone else come up with the Mychal Bell $?

Why did it take David Bowie, an Old School White Rocker
to do it?

I think I would... Gore has some ideas that might work, but this is providing we can keep Obama safe.

Why not?
====================
Let's be real, at this point, who wouldn't vote for Obama? Outside of the people scared that he's gonna get assassinated on January 20th, 2009.

Why didn't anyone else come up with the Mychal Bell $?
====================
Because people love to talk about the problem, but never take the initiative to solve said problem.

Why did it take David Bowie, an Old School White Rocker to do it?
====================
Because David Bowie cares enough to do it and not just say it. Besides, he's British.

Actually, he didn't. He worked as an organizer, THEN went to law school. Someone sent to convey his message should be a little bit tighter on his bio.

sad to say...but at this point my vote goes to anyone that ain't republican (enough of THAT bullshit). be it Hillary, Obama or Edwards or Noble Peace Prize winning Gore....the dems got me on lock. eff the dumb. i'm all for independents, but at some point we have to be real & vote for whomever has a SHOT and is (somewhat) in line with our politics.

and as far as David Bowie goes...

white celebs saving (and adopting) poor, black kids is the new black.

i did a post about it like a year ago.

black celebs/leaders can't make shit happen on their own (for some reason) because we find a new cause every other day.

great post!!...loved reading it...regarding obama/gore...not voting at all...i know, i know...but i am really disgusted with the blatant disregard for 'democracy' and the fact that citizens are too chicken-shit to really challenge the government...so, i won't waste my time voting...furthermore, republican or democrat...they are all the same to me...its all us politics...
...the inability of so-called civil rights leaders to get bell out of jail and keep him out is not surprising...they are a joke...i'm just growing impatient with myself and my generation for not having stepped to the plate already so these dumbasses can retire and stop making fools of black america's issues...
...david bowie...what else is new...we, meaning black people keep waiting for the white people to do it so that we can do it, maybe...once we stop paperchasing...look at katrina and who was most afflicted and who has given money...the class divide among black people in the us may be worse than the racism faced...maybe, but that is not a conclusive statement:)...

i asked my students in section today, if David Bowie can come up with ten racks for the Jena Defense legal fund, how come Lil Wayne isn't making it rain on Mychal Bell?

I would because you're right, that shit is a good look.

Most folk I talk to though say they aren't sure about voting for Obama because they think he'll get into office and forget about the black folk that put him there. That he'll become president and start caterin' to rich white folk.

Whereas Hillary, nobody likes that brawd already, so she ain't got shit to lose. She comes across as a functional bitch (a la functional alcoholic). And more than that, her husband is Bill Clinton, the gulliest white boy to run that shit (of course, she ain't Bill. So him being her husband really shouldn't matter at all).

Why didn't anyone else come up with the Mychal Bell $?
==============================
Because most of our so-called black leaders are media junkies. They're not really there to help; they're there for the cameras. I don't remember hearing about Al Sharpton giving a damn about the Jena 6 before it hit the papers.

And as I'm hearing it, the boy is back in jail because he violated his probation (or some shit like that).
Which is something we have no control over.
Furthermore, I'm starting to feel type funny about the Jena 6 ordeal. Some shit is starting to look awfully strange and I can't put my name to somethin' like that.

It could just be D. Bowie is a nice guy, maybe someone who cares enough to put his money literally where his mouth is...I don't think someone of that status got anything to prove to me or black ppl as a whole..sheesh he's BEEN married to an African for YEARS.

I'm not going to criticize a dude who did something tangible without bringing attention to himself just 'cos I feel a certain way about white folk helping black folk. Where are the black folk with money when you need 'em?

Hmmmmmm
I ‘m with She Hate Me on being real, but there are a lot of white “liberals” drinking the Obama koolaid yo….

That being said from day one I’ve felt that there is no way a Black Man can/ would get elected in contemporary America, and when/ if the first one does she/he will be a REPUBLICAN.

Since my dreams of some elixir than being concocted that would transform Dennis Kucinich from looking like the Travelocity Gnome into a JFK look a like aren’t gonna happen anytime soon, Mike Gravel with his slight craziness gets laughed at, and John Edwards can’t seem to properly shake the Right Wing haters off, I would most likely cast vote for a Gore Obama ticket. I would not be happy tho. Comparatively speaking Auto from the Simpson’s would have been a better president than Bush. People falling all over them selves to praise Mr Gore over the environment remind of Ron Paul supporters and there famous tunnel vision due to his views on foreign policy.
Sad to say but the elective process for our commander and chief is a shameful frivolous farce built on a foundation of money and image that erodes the importance of substance.

Obama is a very charismatic and thoughtful individual with a many years of political success ahead of him. The sad thing about voting for a ticket with him under Gore tho is that he we be relegated to the general figured head postion that VP’s have often occupied (No Cheny for him) when he really would be the more talented of the 2

“I understand that Ms. Vereen trying to reconcile her faith

about whether or not a woman should
be authoratative positions of power.”

Amen…… And off subject a lil…. what is this stuff a hear about women hating on other women bosses? Some friends and family keep bringing this point up….

I deeply disturbed about the “new black” The Prisoners Wife speaks about when it comes to “saving” black youth …and take a very skeptical eye on how the media projects and reports on the Angelina Jolie’s of the world..and the underlying message they are presenting..

I respectfully disagree with the “new causes everyday” aspect , I would say its politics and fear that keep people from lending there funds to highly legitimate causes. We have a lot of 40 million dollar slaves “running” around the country at the moment, trained to look the other way to safely maintain there course of fiscal success. The “All we have is sports and entertainment till we even” tract is killing us, cuz we/they don’t wanna upset those literally paying the bills.

Even your politicians who have millions in there coffers aint ..(thats right aint)….say nothing, because they don’t want to give off the “wrong” impression.

Young Mr Bell is nothing more then a pawn on a chess board that whites in positions of power are moving to make thier points

The system is not for us or going to help us

“how come Lil Wayne isn't making it rain on Mychal Bell?”

Best rhetorical question in a min yo

What is up with all of this Bill Clintion love?...I wish Black folk would truly go back and check his record…….

Moderatertion is not a good thing when you need radical change

To answer you last Question…….David Bowie wouldn’t haft to go through the same ish or potentially loose his good name and put his finances on the line for his contribution…like say a …Beyonce would….

So what, pray tell, will you be wasting your time doing as opposed to voting?

Most folk I talk to though say they aren't sure about voting for Obama because they think he'll get into office and forget about the black folk that put him there. That he'll become president and start caterin' to rich white folk.

He's already catering to rich white folk. Peep the Washington Post article from a week or so ago, "The $75 Million Dollar Woman." How do you think he got to where he is? Catering to rich black folk?

I'm not going to criticize a dude who did something tangible without bringing attention to himself just 'cos I feel a certain way about white folk helping black folk. Where are the black folk with money when you need 'em?

I don't think anyone is criticizing Bowie. Your last question is the point M.Dot and others are making.

What is up with all of this Bill Clintion love?...I wish Black folk would truly go back and check his record…….

Say M.Dot, you need to post that Top 5 Reasons Bill Clinton Wasn't That Good for Black People.
