Are Little Black Girls Human?

TwitThis

R. Kelly got acquitted today.

He is a sick man and his not being found guilty says that
our girls
bodies are worth very little, unless they are in a music video.

Jail would have only made him a worse predator than he already is.
He needs to go into recovery.

Ask someone who is from the Chi. We know R. Kelly likes little girls,
always has and always will, until he gets help or someone puts him out
of his misery.

I wonder what will have to happen in order for someone to put him
out of his misery.

Our willingness to look past his illness and patronize him is indicative
of us being just as sick as he is.

Its odd. R. Kelly gets off and the news is focusing on how Michelle Obama
is The Right's new target. I can't help but think about what message
these events are sending our girls.

The above picture is of a bodega in downtown Brooklyn. I walked by it
last week and was struck by the repetition of scantily clad Video
Vixen bodies.

What does it mean to live in a neighborhood where the display of women,
in this manner, is acceptable?

What does it mean to live in a society where R. Kelly gets off?

Me and my dad had a lively discussion about this last night. He though the trial was a matter of "let's get the successful Black man," but he also didn't know that R. Kelly was married to Aaliyah before she became legal. Sometimes the media is "out to get the Black man," but when the black man is a obviously as guilty as Kelly is, the media can do whatever it wants.

I think it's a sad commentary that he escaped trial for so long, only to be acquitted. R. Kelly may be a musical genius, but he is also a sexual predator, and he needs to be locked up. The fact that we live in a society where this type of stuff is acceptable means that as a whole, we are a race that needs to do more to take care of our women.

*erases all of the R. Kelly songs off of iPod*

He needs therapy. In jail, he would be getting peed on and peeing on others. Subsequently coming out MORE sick. We/He don't need that.

Human beings need to DO better to take care of each other. Men, Women and children.

Women around the world are treated in fucked up ways.

wow. i haven't even HEARD this & i listen to NPR all day, every day. all that's been talked about is Tim Russert (RIP) and Michelle Obama supposedly using the word, "whitey." the lack of media coverage (and anger @ R. Kelly) once again says that 1)black girls aren't valuable. we are sexual deviants who deserve to be abused. and 2)the media doesn't give a flying fig about black folks and our lives.

therapy and jail CAN exist in the
same space (i am saying this with a serious face, even tho i've seen UP CLOSE the lack of 'therapy' that goes on in prisons). but he is sick, and he needs to be locked up. do we say that Charles Manson is sick and therefore doesn't deserve to be locked up just because he's sick? no, he's locked up for the rest of his life because he is a PREDATOR. R. Kelly is a predator & deserves to do time. if he happens to get help while being peeded on by other inmates, so be it. but there must also be a consequence for his actions. him being a acquitted & probably launching another overacting negro opera tour, only further emphasizes the notion that it was the girls' fault, and more so, every black girl's fault that she finds herself being abused.

You know M. Dot there are R. Kelly's running around the hood as we speak and it's been going on for awhile now.

Young girls 12,13,14 think its a good thing to chase down these 20-something corner boys. I talk to my younger sisters and other female relatives and try to get my head around what this phenomenon is all about. The fly cars, flashy clothes, the money, why are these young girls more concerned with doing grown things rather then enjoying their childhood.

I have an upcoming post about this and I am going to link to all female bloggers who write about this.

I think he belongs in jail. I don't like the idea that he is out and can molest another little girl(s) who has parents who are willing to look the other way if the price is right.

I am Pissed that R.Kelly got off M.dot. I hate how so many people are going out of their way to blame the young girl refering to her as a slut, tramp, hot ass etc... How about a 13 year old was missguided, and was allowed or even encouraged to engage in adult acts with someone who was her Godfather.

Did you see the tape M.Dot?

There is no doubt in my mind that she was indeed under 18.

It has come to the attention of mainstream America that black men do not like black women as there have been a number of whites who excuse Imus behavior because so many rappers disrespect black women. I have also read white people use the number of black men who are interacial relationships(partically high profile) as cannon fodder for their beliefs that black men do not like black women.

The Right's attack on Michelle Obama is just a further extention of the hatered that some Americans have for black women. Black American women are the one group of women in this country who do not have the protection of their men. I can at least say in the African community, things are better in this area.

M.Dot, I read articles and listened to interviews in which pshcologists(sp) and pointed out that they can not change what molesters find attractive and that I tastes are pretty much locked in.

I would imagine that there are studies that say both that He can't be reformed and that he can be reformed.

Jail would make him a super predator. He would come back out 10 time worse than he is now.

We HAVE ALL SEEN what jail does to 15,18,15 year old non violent offenders.

Its not a good look.

but this MAN isn't 15 or 18. he is a GROWN ASS MAN & damn near 40. he DESERVES jail time. by allowing him his freedom we are continuing to devalue young girls.

i agree with BeautyinB'more. this is ridiculous. we (the community) are SO quick to blame these young GIRLS, as if R. Kelly was some innocent bystander & they just came and sat on his lap. apparently he's trolled schoolyards for years. so what these young girls look "fast". look at our cultural norms these day. we celebrate greased up, scantily clad women every day (as evident by the bodega pic. you know you can go to any subway stop that sells mags & you'll see the same thing).

*shaking my head*
he should up in Statesville, not planning his next album.

Indeed. "Pimp Daddy"? "The Pied Piper" (who used music to get children to follow him)? R. Kelly is a pig. And as long as the patriarchy teaches women to say "yes" and capitalism teaches us all to make a god of money, he and his ilk are gonna do just fine. Still, what goes around comes around.

=====

I NEVER ONCE, EVER blamed our girls.

I have consistently said that he SHOULD BE SHOT in the face, period point blank.

But. Seeing as I am moving further from Malcolm and closer to Martin, I try not to promote that line of thinking....as much...

Its not so much R. Kelley, it is our willingness to put our love of his music OVER our interest in our girls, not only in this case but in general.

R. Kelly is symbolic of how our culture treats little girls, of all ethnicities.

Even if he did go to jail, he could come back out a super predator.
Can we agree on that?

the prisoner's wife said...

m. dot, i agree. but i disagree that he doesn't ONLY need therapy, but he needs to go to jail (or put down). period.

and i didn't think YOU were blaming the girls. as you'd say...c'mon blood. we folk, i know how you think. i was speaking in the collective you. i've heard people on radio shows saying that, "well, them girls got what they want!" so i was speaking of my frustration at our people.

Oh yeah man.

You WOULD THINK that some of the most marginalized people in the HISTORY of the world would understand power.

SHAKES HEAD REALLY HARD.

I have been on R Kelly's case for years he's a vile predator in the worse way.

True story he offered my friends daughter a fist full of cash to "buy herself something nice for her birthday" and also invited himself to her party...She was on the verge of turning 12 at the time.

He's singled her out because he was working with the choir in her middle school. He'd found out she was a child of a single mother who was rarely home and was moving in for the kill when her mother caught wind and backed him the hell off.

He needs more than therapy. Much more than therapy.

Young girls scantily clad both black and white fill the runways of Europe and New York, as early as 12 years old.

Adrian Lima a top Victoria Secret model was a 14 year old virgin when she debuted with men all of the world panting over her in her bra and panties.

Unfortunately for our girls being a Video Vixen pays allot less than being an international super model which is to say that our girls are chasing pipe dreams trying to justify their beauty more often than not.

Kelly's attorney is Sam Adam Jr

I would say : Let your anger loose on that dude and his consorts.
Ain't there no righteous attorney in Chicago that could give Mr.Adam some shock therapy?
Not one??

But my real Beef is with all the money making Revrends that seem to be having no spiritual gusto at all to stomp the pedophile spirit out of Robert's body...

Not one decent attempt to question their spiritual deficit.

As the author of Lovers Anonymous, this topic hits very close to home. Please visit Soulsofblackgirls.com for the best documentary on this subject I have ever seen. Black girls with a positive self-image are an endangered species, and we are all responsible. We have to do better by our children. So sad.

Church's, at least many of them, don't do sexism. Hence, since I have left glide and been in BK its been hard for me to step into one.

But please believe you have given me Much to write and think about with your comment.

Social criticism of male fascination with pre pubescent girls and OUR failure to criticism and protect them.

Okay. I see you. that rocks.

I agree that he needs therapy not jail...the the vast majority of this nations mentally ill are in jail

We are way to punitive...and on that subject...we haft to look at ourselves as a nation and as people to help rectify that....

What alot of people aren't mentioning that that the R.Kelly trail states is our complete lack of Power in the media

Yes on the ever apparent surface the lack of coverage might state "Black Women aren't important" but I think its a factor of why every blond missing White Girl is important.

Those behind the scenes that dictate what is news.....

You change the faces, backgrounds, and to a certain extent race and sex of those who determine what is deemed news worthy then you'll get healthier coverage.

Black Women are not worthless to millions in this land

But some are apathetical in their judgement of them because they are not delivered any media that makes them think about the female, let alone black female plight

Anybody that blames or throws slurs at a 13 yr girl for her interactions with a grown ass man is sadly wasting what innate intelligence they where given at birth

I again feel like the blaming of the girl...thing tho is overblown.....

In the many conversations Over this decade I've had about R Kelly or "fast girls"/statutory rape with other Black Men rarely ..and I do mean rarely is the under age girl put at fault. I really feel that is just another Negro Talking Point...

Bmore-----

"Black American women are the one group of women in this country who do not have the protection of their men. I can at least say in the African community, things are better in this area."

wow...

I respectfully ask for some insight as to why you think/feel that way.

Shot in the Face.... Damn. M.Dot...

I agree with you this case is symbolic of how society treats women of all ethnicitys. and sadly how some..just don't care..and loovvvvve his music.

On the Bodega display....I'm torn....

I know you didn't say that it was just Black women shown in that manner, but I get the feeling that allot of people look at those magizines and videos in general and just think the exploitation of the Black Female, when for better or worse....alot...damn near half if not more, of the females being spoke of are not black.

I think the message such a display embeds in a lil girl is a very bad one, but I find newsstands of that ilk akin to cigarette billboards....your can find the product anywhere you go in this country...its just not blatantly out there like that.

What does it mean to live in a society where R.Kelly gets off?

That we have serious issues with Race, Sex, Money, and Systems of Crime and punishment in our land

I am honored that you took the time to respond.

R.Kelly and the fast girls, AS IF HE AIN'T GOT NO AGENCY.

Why are men treated like THEY CAN'T SAY NO to sex? Not even men, but PREDATORIAL DUDES. Seriously.

Even if they women on the magazines ain't black it was bugged out to see them all clustered there together and for R. to be acquitted.

it's a sickness that anyone can rationalize r. kelly's behavior.

self-hate?
delusional behavior?
irrational groupthink?

have no answers except I try to educate my sisters about the realities of being a woman and girl today.
