I Got One Question, Is You Happy?

TwitThis

Remember when T.I. asked, "Is You Happy"
at the end
of "Why You Wanna"?

The issue of happiness has been on my
bird recently.

The day Heath Ledger died,
I was talking to Filthy and he said that

anyone who kills himself ain't fit to live.

***Insert record scratch HERE.

I responded, saying thats that bullsh-t.

First of all, anyone who takes their own life is in pain
and has been in pain for a long time,

Secondly, people who kill themselves more than
likely reach out to someone. Sometimes the response
is inappropriate.

On top of that, people suffer from mental illness,
which impacts their decision to commits suicide.

I was like, Man, Heath was seperated from and
probably missed his family something terrible.

I would imagine that he was just trying to figure
out how to deal with
it in the way he knew how.

Losing your family will break ANY man down.

Filthy agreed that mental illness most certainly
plays a role and went on to mention that
we as a generation have to come to understand
that PAIN is a natural part of life.

When people ask me about SJ and whether
he is making me happy, I began answer differently.

It has become less about him making me happy
and more about me having someone I can struggle with.

Happiness is a temporary state. I would rather have my
serenity than have happiness.

Don't get it twisted, happiness feels great,
but I realize that I have to consciously think about
the desire to be happy.

Especially for someone like me, who is ambitious,
and is always coming up with this, that or the third thing
to be involved in, happiness can't possibly be the goal.

As of late, the goal has been how to become a more human
human.

Why do you think we trip so hard on being happy?

To me, life is about being happy. When you stop striving to be happy you stop living.

It makes us happy to love another person, it makes us happy to be loved. It makes us happy to help others.

Is it true happiness is a temporary state? Yes. But LIFE itself is a temporary state, aint shit guaranteed but death and taxes.

You can use semantics to list off "more important" reasons to live. But at the end of the day those things you list will make you happy, so its unavoidable.

Dude.

Are you serious.

Think about it.
Our young people and people in general have zero f-cking capacity to deal with pain.

They turn to liker, mashing, likker and mashing, and other destructive sh-t because THEY can't deal with
being UNhappy, and being in pain.

I say it because I have done it.
And guess what. Whatever was bothering saturday night, was bothering me sunday morning, ock.

Come on yo.

You can't possibly think that ITs all about happiness? If you can't concede that then you must think that we as a nation have a problem dealing with pain WITHIN ourselves without trying to mitigate it with EXTERNAL sh-t.

In fact, I was thinking about couple of weeks ago that jail, for many black men, is the first time, that they can sit and think about shit. Just be reflective. And figure out alternative ways of dealing with pain. <<<--- where did THAT rant come from. LOL.

Happiness is a choice. You can choose to be happy or choose to live in despair...hard but true. I mean how else can you explain ppl who go through horrible situations yet somehow maintain a smile, a joyful and bubbly expression?

I think we trip so hard on being happy 'cos we humans are so stuck on our emotions. We always try to live for those emotions, so when we feel we need to do something we do it on the whim of that feeling and many a time the choice to satisfy that feeling can end up in our destruction.

M dot,

I don't think you're looking at the big picture, the most important picture.

You're on some "BUT PEOPLE HAVE PAIN!!!" shit... well of course they do.

But I'M saying, NOBODY wants pain. Nobody wants to be unhappy. Nobody wants to drown their problems in alcohol. If we all had our choice, we WOULD be happy. Happiness is the preferred state of anyone who is not mentally ill.

If you show me a human being who can honestly say they have no desire to live a happy life, you will be showing me someone who is in serious need of medication. Period.

Chuck bear,
I am not SAYING "But people have pain".

I am more concerned with the DESIRE to avoid it all together and the unwillingness to learn how to deal with it w/o shopping, drinking, smoking or f-cking.

We, as a people, and our young people, don't have the tools to deal with our pain with out reaching for the credit card/bottle etc and its a f-cking problem.

If someone wants to avoid rushing to pills, sex, alcohol or food to comfort them from whatever pain they have, the easiest thing would be to leave America. This is a nation of instant gratification.

Taking that element out of our lives is like trying to stamp out racism... not gonna happen.

But of course, every region has their own little problems. We can take the whole concept of "shame" in east Asian countries, and their high suicide rates. Or you can take the conflicts in the middle east, how they're killing each other like bloods and crips over religion.

Pick your poison, the world is a fucked up place. You make a great point in your last post, but in the society we live in.... i just don't see how it would work.

Its interesting that you say that. One of the things SJ has said he loves about me is the fact that I dream big.

m.dot I'mma have to disagree with you on that one big time.

Not everyone pops pills. Right from back home I seent ppl go through the darndest thangs yet manage to stay head above water. Some ppl have faith, others maintain a positive outlook no matter what..

Blood its cool if you disagree.

Its all love.

I am not saying that everyone pops 'em. WHat I am saying is that our culture in general and our young people specifically are not taught to cultivate the ability to endure pain. And that shit sets you up for a whole lot of heartbreak because Life is FILLED with pain.
